If you would like EMTs on hand for an event, simply fill out the form below. Once submitted, our scheduling officers will contact you as soon as possible and begin processing your request. If our EMTs are available, your request will be filled and confirmed via email.
IMPORTANT FOR SPORTING EVENTS: From the Department of Public Health regarding the differences between an EMT and an athletic trainer: “EMTs are certified by the Department of Public Health pursuant to M.G.L. c. 111C and the Department’s Emergency Medical Services System regulations at 105 CMR 170.000. Massachusetts EMTs’ scope of practice is defined by their level of training and certification pursuant to the regulations, and the Statewide Treatment Protocols. As one example of…different roles [between an EMT and an athletic trainer], an EMT working at a high school athletic event assesses and treats an injured or ill athlete, and provides for transport by ambulance to an appropriate hospital for further care. The athletic trainer does not do this. The EMT does not make a decision about whether or not an athlete can return to play after an injury or illness – that is the athletic trainer’s responsibility. Again, current certification as an EMT does not qualify a person to practice as an athletic trainer. Conversely, current licensure as an athletic trainer does not qualify a person to work as an EMT.”
To reiterate, MIT EMS can only provide EMTs that can treat an injured/ill party and arrange for transport to the hospital via an ambulance. They CANNOT clear an athlete to return to play; if you would like someone who is allowed to do that, please hire an athletic trainer instead/in addition to an EMT.
Staffing policy: Requests submitted fewer than 14 days before the event may not be filled. Requests submitted at least 14 days in advance will usually be filled but are not guaranteed. If you would like to arrange EMT standbys for multiple scheduled events (e.g. all sports games in a season), please contact the MIT EMS Scheduling Officers (ems-scheduling@mit.edu).
Payment policy: Our rate is $60/hour per EMT per day, plus an additional 30 minutes of preparation, which includes all required medical equipment. If you would like the ambulance present at your event, our rate is $90/hour/EMT/day (plus an additional 30 minutes of preparation). If you request the ambulance for an event, it must still leave the event to respond to any emergency calls received. Discounted rates are available for groups with an MIT cost object.
Cancellation policy: Please note that once your request is staffed, it will be communicated to you via email and is considered a confirmed booking. If you no longer need EMS coverage after submitting your request, please notify us before we fill your detail request. Once we fill your detail request, requests may be canceled free of charge up to 48 hours prior to the event. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event, up until the event start time, will be charged 50% of the full price. If our EMTs arrive at the event as scheduled without prior communication of a cancellation, you will be responsible for 100% of the service cost, regardless of whether our services were utilized.
